With the globalisation and the reduction of import restrictions in the early 1990s, transactions with foreign parties increased significantly. In this scenario, transfer pricing rules were set forth by Law 9430 in the year of 1996 and became completely enforceable in 1997. Since then, transfer pricing legislation has had a number of amendments and additions and several regulations have been issued (Normative Instruction 243 is the regulatory act in force).
