Transfer pricing comes into focus in South Africa

Jan-Paul Borman and Amit Chadha of PricewaterhouseCoopers in South Africa discuss how economic pressures and the recent budget have sharpened the tax authorities’ attentions on transfer pricing.

Since the introduction of transfer pricing in South Africa, there has been little public comment by the government on transfer pricing. With the global economic downturn, transfer pricing received greater focus. In a document published by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) in 2009, titled the SARS Strategic Plan 2009 – 2012, the following was stated:
